Leadership Positions

Battalion Commander
As the senior member of the Corps of Cadets, the battalion commander must constantly be aware of his/her every action within the school and community.
The image that he/she has a mirroring effect on all JROTC programs, schools, and the US Army.
Although not all inclusive, some of his/her duties are a follows:
Overall supervision of the battalion.
Designates particular areas for inspection and/or supervision by members of his/her staff, insuring that necessary reports are timely rendered and follow-up action is taken as appropriate.
Inspects work of staff officers.
Recommends job assignments and/or relief from job assignments.
Recommends promotions, demotions, and awards.
Schedules and presides over staff and/or commanders conferences.
Presides as Chairperson of the "Honor Council"
Accomplishes additional duties as directed by the Army Instructor Team.

Battalion Executive Officer
Assumes command of the battalion in the absence of the battalion commander.
Works closely with the Operations Officer (S-3) for calendar coordination and suspense requirements.
Recommends job assignments and/or relief from job assignments.
Recommends promotions, demotions, and awards.
Serves as advisor to the battalion commander in formulating policy and plans for the battalion.
Serves as Commander of Troops during the Formal Inspection.
Directs, coordinates, and supervises the battalion staff.
Insures that all suspense items are met on time.
Performs additional duties assigned by the battalion commander.

Command Sergeant Major
Serves as a model cadet for the entire Corps of Cadets throughout the school.
Supervises the color guard and insures that they are properly trained and that their special equipment is on hand and properly maintained.
Supervises all First Sergeants.
Schedules and conducts meetings with the non-commissioned officers when necessary.
Commandant of the NCO Academy.
Recommends cadets for promotions and Corps of Cadets job positions.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.
Performs other duties as directed by the battalion commander.

Battalion Adjutant
Prepares correspondence for the battalion.
Keeps track of all suspense items and due dates.
Works closely with CSM Lane on the JUMS record system.
Publishes all orders pertaining to the battalion.
Maintains and posts JROTC student record.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.

Battalion Security Officer
Responsible for the security of all the Battalions equipment.
Responsible for the monthly inventory of sensitive items, due no later than the 6th of each month.
Maintains "Information Technology" security. Responsible for the pass wording of the Cadet Staff computer system.
Performs routine security checks of all storage areas.
Acts as the security agent for the "Task Force" when on cadet rides (field trips)
Assist other staff members when required.
Corrects uniform violations.

Battalion Operations Officer
Prepares battalion operation orders for field trips and other battalion activites.
Prepares posts on the bulletin boards, and files weekly training schedules.
Files training in JUMS from battalion activities.
Maintains the Battalions Activity Calendar.
Maintains reference files and reference/history library.
Maintains a record of all extracurricular activities in which the battalion is involved.
Plans competitions between units of the battalion and other JROTC Battalions.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.
Performs additional duties as directed by the battalion commander.

Battalion Logistics Officer
Responsible for maintenance of the JROTC building.
Assists the Army Instructor in receiving, issuing, and inventorying uniforms and supplies.
Assists the Army Instructor in maintaining individual clothing records.
Insures that the supply room is clean, neat, and orderly at all times.
Informs the Army Instructor of shortages and of availability of expendable supplies.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.

Battalion Community Affairs Officer:
Keeps the battalion informed on current events.
Prepares news releases and reports JROTC news to local/school newspapers.
Arranges for public information coverage and photographs of JROTC events/activities as appropriate.
Keeps the bulletin board(s) neat and current.
Maintains a scrap book of all JROTC activities and records the battalion history as it occurs.
Assist the S-1 during peak administrative periods.
Corrects uniform violations observed.

Company Commanders
Each of the company commanders is responsible to the battalion commander for the following:
Responsible for the discipline, and appearance of his/her company.
Recommending job assignments or relief from assignments.
Recommending promotions and demotions.
Reporting disciplinary problems to the battalion commander without delay.
Appears before the Honor Council as required when a cadet of his/her company has been
referred to the Honor Council for action.
The CO will present the facts of the case and make a recommendation as to a "course of action".
Correcting uniform violations when observed.
Insuring that all company officers and non-commissioned officers are thoroughly familiar with appropriate drill regulations.
Utilizes the chain of command when issuing orders and directives and insuring that others in his/her company do likewise.
Attending Battalion Commanders/Officers call when announced.

Company First Sergeant
The company first sergeants are responsible to their individual company commanders for the following:
Coordinating with platoon sergeants to insure proper training and supervision of the flag detail, when appropriate.
Observing the flag detail, morning and afternoon, at least twice each week, as appropriate.
Recommending job assignments and relief from job assignments.
Recommending promotions and demotions.
Responsible for the company when under his/her command (when company officers are in meeting or otherwise
not present).
The first sergeant maintains a file on weekly reports of findings during inspections,
periodically reviews those reports, and counsels pertinent individuals as appropriate.
Investigates accusations of cadet wrong doing and report the findings to the Company Commander.
Corrects uniform violations when observed.
Accomplishes those duties that are directed by the company commander, executive officer, and/or Army Instructor.
Responsible for planning and executing "NCO Calls."

Platoon Leaders

Platoon leaders are responsible to their individual company commanders for the following:
Training, discipline, and appearance of cadets of their platoon.
Providing a flag detail when directed, if appropriate.
Recommending job assignments and relief from job assignments.
Recommending promotions and demotions.
Correcting uniform violations when observed.
In ranks inspection on uniform day.
Attending officers meetings when announced.

Platoon Sergeants
Platoon sergeants are responsible to their individual platoon leaders for the following:
Forming the platoon at the beginning of each instructional block.
Helps maintain discipline on the bus, drill floor and classroom.
Assuming command of the platoon in the absence of the platoon leader.
Assisting the platoon leader as directed.
Recommending job assignments and relief from job assignments.
Recommending promotions and demotions.
Taking the roll call (report) at all formations.
Correcting uniform violations when observed.
Frequently quizzes cadets in his/her platoon to see if they are knowledgeable of basic military material,
chain of command, the names of leaders, etc.
Attending NCO meetings when announced.

Squad Leaders

Squad leaders are responsible to their individual platoon sergeants for the following:
Correcting uniform violations when observed.
The First Squad leader will form the platoon in the absence of the platoon sergeant.
The discipline and appearance of the squad.
Prepares the squad for inspection on uniform days.
Insures that he/she is thoroughly familiar with appropriate drill regulations.
Insuring that his/her squad is trained to perform the flag detail and any other ceremony in which the squad is to
participate.
Observing his/her cadets when they are on any assigned detail.
Making accurate reports of absentees at platoon and company formations.
Knowing the name of each member of the squad and the shortage's of uniforms,
uniform items, and other equipment issued to the squad or its members.
Helps maintain discipline on the bus, drill floor and classroom.
Recommending promotions and demotions.

Cadets
Cadets that are not officers nor non-commissioned officers are responsible to the leaders
(officers and non-commissioned officers) for the following:
To live to the high standards of the JROTC Creeds
To maintain a high standard of personal appearance.
To conduct themselves in a manner that at all times reflects credit upon the JROTC Battalion, the school and
themselves personally.
To obey all orders in a willing and cooperative manner.
Maintain and wear the entire cadet uniform immaculately on the days prescribed. To be on time for all official formations.
Properly safeguard and care for all equipment and material for which held accountable.

Instructor Special Assistant
The Special Assistant to the SAI is appointed to that position because of unparalleled
performance, dedication, appearance, and knowledge of JROTC.
Some of the duties are as follows:
Advises the Battalion Commander on matters pertaining to the corps of cadets.
Assists the SAI in special subject instruction.
Assists the SAI with special programs of cadet involvement with community relations.
Assists JROTC instructors with enrollment at the high schools.
Assists in liaison activities with parents of cadets and prospective cadets.
Assists the SAI in coordinating and preparing news releases.
Correcting uniform violations when observed.
Other duties as assigned.
