Memorial Day Parade

Seventy members of the North Country Union High School Falcon Battalion marched down Newport's main street to Gardner Park on Memorial Day. During remembrance ceremonies the Falcon Battalion cadets listened as local speakers recalled the sacrifices of American citizens to maintain our freedoms in America's wars. Also in attendance were Bradley Glover and Joe Whitehill, alumni from the Class of 2009 who were home on leave from service with the Vermont Army National Guard in Afghanistan. The Falcon Battalion cadets also provided two color guards and the honor guard firing party which fired a twenty-one gun salute to the fallen from our previous conflicts.

Military Formal Inspection

This is a picture of what was a class that will go down in history at North Country Union High School for tying the highest percentage in the 13 years JROTC has been at North Country. The Percentage was 99% overall, just 1 single percentage point from having a perfect score! The class of 2004 scored a 981/1000 points possible. Go Falcon Battalion!

We just went to Spauding High School and we didn't come home empty handed this time around. We came home with a total of 9 trophies! The 2 Platoons came in overall 2nd place.

Marksmanship

NEWPORT- North Country Union High Schools JROTC Marksmanship team takes aim at small targets against big competition throughout the district in the 2009-2010 team season. Marksmanship team Captain Sabastian Lyonnais and Co-captain Connor Graham took the NCUHS team to 6 competitions so far against a variety of schools that compete as well. After going through an extensive training program on safety and handling of the rifles, equipment, and techniques that lasted 3 weeks. It was followed by a rigorous test of the knowledge they learned. Only after 3 days of practice shooting they had competition which happened to be Nationals. “We as a team are about precision and having fun. We compete against other schools and try to bring home trophies” says Captain Lyonnais. “We shoot within the umbrella of the CMP” stated Colonel H. Keith Wooster. The CMP is the Civilian Marksmanship Program dedicated to training and educating U.S. citizens in responsible use of firearms and air gun safety training, marksmanship training, and competition.

FALCON DRILL TEAM BRINGS IT ON!

On 31 October, Cadet Captain Hailey Libbey led the Falcon Drill Team in a drill competition at Spaulding High School against seven other New England Schools. The drill team competed in a total of six events; a uniform inspection, a Color Guard presentation, armed squad, unarmed squad, armed platoon and unarmed platoon. The color guard was led by Melody Mayhew. Armed squad and armed platoon were led by Ryan Bernier. Unarmed squad was led by Shannon Quinn. While the unarmed platoon was led by Cadet Captain Hailey Libbey After a day filled with intense competition and challenges the Falcon Drill Team placed 4th in Armed Platoon Drill and Inspection. The results are because of weeks of hard practice and discipline.

Green Mountain Leadership Challenge

This was a five day leadership camp where cadets practice leadership with other schools in a variety of challenging events including high ropes, leadership reaction courses, the climbing wall, and the single rope bridge. The leadership camp was held at Ethan Allen Firing Center in Jericho, Vermont.
